An email from my mommy

The first day of school our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn't already know. I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder.

I turned around to find a wrinkled, little old lady beaming up at me with a smile that lit up her entire being..

She said, 'Hi handsome. My name is Rose. I'm eighty-seven years old. Can I give you a hug?'

I laughed and enthusiastically responded, 'Of course you may!' and she gave me a giant squeeze..

'Why are you in college at such a young, innocent age?' I asked.

She jokingly replied, 'I'm here to meet a rich husband, get married, and have a couple of kids...'

'No seriously,' I asked. I was curious what may have motivated her to be taking on this challenge at her age.

'I always dreamed of having a college education and now I'm getting one!' she told me.

After class we walked to the student union building and shared a chocolate milkshake.

We became instant friends. Every day for the next three months we would leave class together and talk nonstop. I was always mesmerized listening to this 'time machine' as she shared her wisdom and experience with me..

Over the course of the year, Rose became a campus icon and she easily made friends wherever she went. She loved to dress up and she reveled in the attention bestowed upon her from the other students. She was living it up.

At the end of the semester we invited Rose to speak at our football banquet I'll never forget what she taught us. She was introduced and stepped up to the podium. As she began to deliver her prepared speech, she dropped her three by five cards on the floor.

Frustrated and a little embarrassed she leaned into the microphone and simply said, 'I'm sorry I'm so jittery. I gave up beer for Lent and this whiskey is killing me! I'll never get my speech back in order so let me just tell you what I know.'

As we laughed she cleared her throat and began, ' We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing.

There are only four secrets to staying young, being happy, and achieving success. You have to laugh and find humor every day. You've got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die.

We have so many people walking around who are dead and don't even know it!

There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up.

If you are nineteen years old and lie in bed for one full year and don't do one productive thing, you will turn twenty years old. If I am eighty-seven years old and stay in bed for a year and never do anything I will turn eighty-eight.

Anybody! Can grow older. That doesn't take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding opportunity in change. Have no regrets.

The elderly usually don't have regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do. The only people who fear death are those with regrets..'

She concluded her speech by courageously singing 'The Rose.'

She challenged each of us to study the lyrics and live them out in our daily lives. At the year's end Rose finished the college degree she had begun all those months ago.

One week after graduation Rose died peacefully in her sleep.

Over two thousand college students attended her funeral in tribute to the wonderful woman who taught by example that it's never too late to be all you can possibly be.

When you finish reading this, please send this peaceful word of advice to your friends and family, they'll really enjoy it!

These words have been passed along in loving memory of ROSE.

REMEMBER, GROWING OLDER IS MANDATORY. GROWING UP IS OPTIONAL. We make a Living by what we get. We make a Life by what we give.

So if you're in the Spring Valley area

You should check out Crowbar's second location! It's located where Fat Katz used to be off Rainbow and Flamingo by the 7-11. Finally finished the painting here.. The front door was hand painted to look like wood, and the outlets were meant to mimic the brick inside of the place. Unedited photos:

ALDO!

so my mom kept trying to get Aldo through the doggie door..
after several attempts, i caught the last minute of it.. and HAD to share.

this is aldo.
my webbed-paw ugly little shit..
and i love him so much!!

watch him conquer the doggie door :]

Camera Roll: Paint And Pictures

this week at work we painted a doctor & lawyer's home.
the drive up there was really pretty,
considering las vegas is in the middle of a desert
and there's normally dirt and rocks around for landscape.
obviously a camera phone won't do it justice, but i'll still share :]

you don't see shit like that everyday here.

if you didn't know, i paint for a living with my mom. she owns her own design company, and i'm an artist, along with my little brother. this week we painted the master and master closet, and did an accent wall. texture & faux finish. here's my mom applying the joint compound:

and here is the almost finished product:

looks pretty neat, huh?
and our friend redid the master bath.
it is rainforest marble over bamboo flooring. there are benches in the shower and a gorgeous chandelier over the bathtub. and the faucet in the sinks are amazing!!

such a gorgeous work setting this week!
this is my not-so-gorgeous return home:
paint EVERYWHERE!!! i'm allergic to the latex gloves and the non-latex gloves bother me. and the hair obviously wanted to paint. that's what i get for not wearing my hat.

back at home, i had the entire house to myself. well, not really, i have four minions running around, but that's what it felt like. my husband went to seattle for a couple days. he shared some pictures with me that i'll share with you!

he drove around and sent me some pictures..
i saved my favorites and played with them on instagram-

 his instagram: itstwitchbitch
my instagram: ashlea420

i am so excited that he's home! i was so anxious to pick him up from the airport last night, worried i wouldnt look good enough for him, so i took a shit ton of pictures. he doesn't give a shit what i look like, but i was just excited! here they are, and yes, i had to play with tons of filters!

no filter

and don't forget! tomorrow is NO PANTS FRIDAY!!!!

i think it's funny-
i have 34 bras, yet i continue to snap pictures in this one.
must be my fave!

time to go!
til next time..

enterprise. they give you the tools to be your own boss.

so i finally got a new phone and a new service, thank goodness. you couldn't pay me to go back to those other assholes, even though i already went through half of my data the second day i had it. pshh.

today is my first day off in 8 days. i've been helping painting/remodeling crowbar's second location here in vegas. above are some tiny samples of the faux finishes i did. horrible lighting, horrible photos, but the finished product is pretty sweet, if i do say so myself. tomorrow i start back up again, which sucks cuz i feel like i'm getting sick. maybe it has to do with the fact i've been working in the cold for a week or breathing in all the dust and bullcrap. whatever. picture time!

baby willow and adolf aka addie, formerly known as nigel.
aldo the pup and his buddy, link, didn't want to play. assholes.
